Introduction for Quranic Du'as
Read this before reading the compilation
Your Lord has proclaimed, “Call upon Me, I will respond to you." Surah Ghafir verse 60
Before we dive in to the gems of Quranic supplication, I would like to make a disclaimer on how to use the Compliation of Quranic Du'as
First and foremost, these gems that I am passionate to share is from my own study. I may miss or overlook some of the du'as. My promise is to read to my best ability page by page, Al-Fatihah to An-Nas, to extract all these gems for your use.
Secondly, I am neither a scholar nor learned men of Islam. I am just a regular guy extracting and sharing what I found in the Glorious Book. However my guarantee is to try practice absolute integrity to give the Chapter and Verse and translate as accurate as possible without distorting the meaning of the du'as with the resources I have. If you are an Imam/Ustaz/Ustazah/Scholar, you are more than welcome to contact and correct me if you do spot any errors in my journey compiling these gems.
Next, I am listing down all direct invocations recorded in Quran in 1st person, example of such verses are "My Lord.., Our Lord.. or I seek refuge in the Lord.. therefore verses in 3rd person such as "And remember Our servant Job, when he cried out to his Lord, “Satan has afflicted me with distress and suffering.” Surah Sa'd verse 41 will not be included.
I will also not be including such invocations read by;
Wrong Doers - “Our Lord! Delay us for a little while. We will respond to Your call and follow the messengers!” Surah Ibrahim verse 44
Iblis - “My Lord! Then delay my end until the Day of their resurrection.” Surah Sa'd verse 79
Last but not least, perspective and opinions of these Quranic du'as. It is mine and mine alone, Allah knows the true practicality of these du'as. If you have better perspective of its true usage, I am eager to hear your point of view. What do I mean by these?
Example a lot of the du'as start with "Rabbana" (Our Lord) like;
Surah Ali-Imran 3:8 “Our Lord! Do not let our hearts deviate after you have guided us. Grant us Your mercy. You are indeed the Giver ˹of all bounties˺.
and the verse just after that also started with "Rabbana"
Surah Ali-Imran 3:9 Our Lord! You will certainly gather all humanity for the ˹promised˺ Day—about which there is no doubt. Surely Allah does not break His promise.”
But can we include Surah Ali-Imran 3:9 as a du'a? Though we are affirming to the truth of what Allah is going to do, in my opinion I would not include these in my list of du'a (supplication). No doubt all of the Quranic verses are holy, but the point of this particular segment is to extract purely du'as. I hope you get what I am trying to say.
Another very powerful du'a spoken by the Wife of Imran was recorded in Surah Ali-Imran 3:35
“My Lord! I dedicate what is in my womb entirely to Your service, so accept it from me. You ˹alone˺ are truly the All-Hearing, All-Knowing.”
Definitely this verse is a du'a. Though I am including this in the list of du'as, but this supplication is best read by expecting Muslimahs and not male Muslims. I think you get the picture.
Last example I want to highlight is the du'a of prophet Sulaiman
Surah Sad 38:35 “My Lord! Forgive me, and grant me a kingdom that will never be matched by anyone after me. You are indeed the Bestower.”
This is a very impressive du'a supplicated by prophet Sulaiman. If we look into the grammar of this verse, anyone be it male or female Muslims can read this du'a. However, looking closely what prophet Sulaiman mentioned "that will never belong to anyone after me" this du'a is best not to be in your daily supplication. Why do I say this? If we look at the verses surrounding this du'a, we can deduce God is refering to the earthly kingdom (not the afterlife) and we do not know how many individuals came after prophet Sulaiman up until now. Example, God granted prophet Sulaiman 999 KU (kingdom units), and person Z that came after him read this du'a (let us assume God grant him/her this supplication) the maximum this person can be granted on earth is 998 (or 998.9999 you get my point) KU because no one after him can be granted 999 KU since Allah will never break His promise to anyone. And so on and so forth i.e 998..997..996 KU after every supplication that was granted the kingdom units will be reduced due the structure of this du'a. Can you see the logic and maths in this? We do not know how many person Z has been granted this supplication thus why I said about not making this du'a as your main focus, but hey don't let this be deterrent from still asking Allah, who knows there are still 2 or 1 KU left. XD
I pray that the compilation of all these gems that Allah chose to be included in His final revelation is beneficial to me and all the readers.
May Allah guide us to the best of both worlds.
